THE PRODUCER

My name is Danilo Lopes. I am 25, and I make beats out of Recife, Pernambuco, in the northeast of Brazil.

I have been producing for over ten years. I started in EDM and psytrance, working as a producer, a DJ, and a mixing and mastering engineer. That run lasted two years, from 2018 to 2020, and it ended the way things end when you are young and have nothing to fall back on: I lost my computer, and every project on it went with it.

I had just finished school. I was starting from zero and it was all or nothing. Losing that machine took the work and the reason to keep going at the same time.

I stayed away from production for two years. Part of it was not having the gear. Part of it was not wanting to go through that again.

The rebuild

In 2022 I put together a desktop myself. Nothing fancy, just enough to make music again. I came back writing freestyle beats, and I came back closer to the street than I had ever been, because the work it took to pay for that machine put me there.

I have not stopped since.

What I take from all of it is simple: trust the process, and do not give up on what you are building.
